The fox and the ratter

Today we got word that construction is gonna start on the kitchen in about 8 days.
I however, am not gonna get excited because, as regular readers may have already noticed, not a damn thing happened the last time someone told us "within a week".
Whatever, it has to happen some time, right?

Anyway, tattoos!

Here's what Eckel did on Zule today.
Oh, and Lucifer is back home after an extended weekend in the country with his human grandparents, and he was so excited to be back that he snuck into the forbidden zone, and managed to get in the picture too.

A fox and a Prague Ratter (who appears to be very interested in whatever Eckel is telling him)
Here's a majestic piece of embroidery that Allan bought for my office while i was sick
And, uhm, i actually bought this guy for the apartment (don't judge me) but i haven't figured out a safe way to bring him home on my bike yet
My parents brought us apples and pears
And Allans client Morten brought cake!

Allan posted the tattoos he did in London, so go check those out!
And also, go check out some pictures a friend took at the shop not too long ago.
Her blog is awesome, by the way, so stay and check out her work while you're there.

Back at work, and happy about it too

Oh hi, how are y'all doing?
Us? Well, we're back from London and we couldn't be happier.
The convention was a bit weird this year, and none of us had a truly great time, but i plan to rant about that on my personal blog tomorrow, so i'll spare you for now.
But Allan is gonna post the three tattoos* he did while there very soon.

In the meantime, i had a rare opportunity to get a sneaky shot of a tattoo he hasn't gotten any decent pictures of yet.
See, Nicolai came in to get some robot-spacechick-madness done by Nick last night, and while he was just sitting there, i got a few classy iPhone pictures of his penguin!

Penguin awesomeness, real pictures will pop up on the blog of Uncle eventually

More news, dates, updates, and that sort of stuff coming soon.
Right now i think i'm gonna try to convince Allan to watch some more Bored to Death with me!

*Poor guy had a terrible cold and couldn't work at all Friday.

Next!... or: where'd he go?

One would think that after setting off on an exciting journey half way across the world's smallest continent/largest island to attend WorldCon 68/AussieCon 4, that a certain person who for today's purposes shall remain nameless, might return to immediately post an enthusiastic rant about how much fun it was, how baffling it was, how great it was to be taken care of by Chris and Ed and Dim and Brie and all the writers of the (what I have dubbed them) Melbourne Writers Conventicle; what a delight it was to meet one determined E.K. Vollmer all the way from a town called (would you believe it) Sebastipole!; how cool it was to receive encouragement and honest critique from Kit (and by extension Patience St.James - there are two Herbroulesse in the Sundergird: the one we find in Lamplighter was named after the much older one you find on the "BIG" map, honest); how exciting and rewarding each panel - with such lights as Kate Forsyth, Shaun Tan, Ian Irvine, Juliet Marillier, Lara Morgan, Richard Harland, Russell Kirkpatrick, to name(drop) only some - I was on actually was... but apparently no.

Apparently said nameless soul has waited 2 - maybe even 3! - weeks to post something.

Why is that? you may not actually be asking yourself (if indeed you are still even visiting this barely-a-blog).

Well, not sure actually: I think maybe it is a great tumbling collapsing relief that after so long above person has actually produced what they were tasked to produce (both by their original publisher and ultimately by themselves); also it is the great wilderness that it seems often comes after a writer has completed a long project (I cite here the great talent, Michael Pryor , who said at the con that, having this very moment finished his own 6(!) book series, he now feels bereft

So here he sits, hiding in his room, playing too many computer games (and thus inviting judgement from all non-gamers), squeezing out a post to you all, actually very excited that MBT Book 3 is almost here. indeed that some folks might even have copies right now and that all the speculation and wait will (I most earnestly hope) be rewarded.

As to those projects mentioned in previous posts, the Next! of this blogs title - well, they are sitting there, waiting to be picked up soon: for, Lord willing, the penner of this post surely want to write more Half-Continent stories, but right now and just for a little bit finds it necessary to let the "field lie fallow" as it were.

As to why I spoke of myself in the third person for much of this post, I do not know either - Jung would have a field day, I am sure... T'was and interesting writing exercise never-the-less: I have been told that this is a good thing for a writer to do after finishing a big work, to write short things, try stuff out, keep your hand in but keep your goals small so you still feel like a writer who can achieve stuff. All very helpful - now it remains for me to put it in to practice...

BTW, you may not have noticed, but I LOVE ellipses...

Sake maki

It's always difficult for me to get Allan (or any of the other guys for that matter) to give me pictures for this blog.
Understandably, they'd rather post them on their own blogs, and i can't exactly blame them, but in order for this blog to have the occasional tattoo photo, so it's not all about me whining about broken kitchens, i have to demand tattoo pictures.
As i did with this one when i said, "i'm taking the sushi and that's it!"
Or something along those lines...

Anyway, here's Kim's flying maki

And here are all those battles i did not win.
Until next time, Allan...

Vampires and water leaks

Ok, since Allan already posted a sneak peek of this one on his blog, i better hurry up and post the whole thing.
Keep in mind that it's one of those half healed/half fresh situations that are so damn hard to photograph without glare.
But not to worry, we'll get a healed shot when Stefan comes back to get his backpiece started!

Grrr, argh

In shop news, it seems like we may get our kitchen back in the not so distant future.
After much delay, shit is finally starting to happen, and the water damage that broke out in May, and has left us without a kitchen and therefore with a very messy shop, for over a month, could be fixed within the next week or so.
I'm hopeful, but not optimistic; shit has a way of going wrong for us just when we're about to reach our goal.
The goal, in case you all forgot, is of course not only to have a completely finished shop, but a shop that is so finished that we can finally have that opening party we've been talking about since March.
Personally i think we might as well wait until our one year anniversary is coming up.
I know that sounds a little crazy, but we've waited so long already and now that fall is rapidly approaching with its rainy and windy weather, none of our foreign friends will want to come visit anyway, and who can blame them.
So yeah, maybe it won't happen until March, but it will eventually happen and when it does, there will be an abundance of 80's hors d'oeuvres for everyone!

Supplemental

Here's another view of the horse tattoo Eckel posted on his blog a few days ago.
Yes, on his blog.
A picture.
Of a tattoo.
I know, right?

Side
Front
Aaaand a whole different view, that you maybe didn't wanna see

Sorry for traumatizing y'all, i'll make up for it with more pretty tattoo pictures in the near future, and maybe even a finished shot of this!
